China's Curious Cult of the Mango

A really interesting look at how a 1966 gift from the Pakistani foreign minister to Mao sparked a brief obsession with the mango. Stories from the Cultural Revolution don't often provoke smiles so this makes a welcome diversion. I'd be extremely keen to hear if anyone has relatives who either recall this period first-hand, or have memories of being told about it as youngsters themselves. Please?
